Repentance Question

In my thinking about repentance and in my daily consideration of the things that need changing in myself, I keep coming back to the same question.

WHY IS TRUE REPENTANCE SO DIFFICULT TO REALIZE?

Tell me what you think.

True repentance is so difficult because of the gulf that separates us from God to begin with. We are not capable of freeing ourselves from the sin that pushes us away from God. If we were, Christ's death would have been meaningless. However, true repentance is possible through God's grace and the transformation of our minds and hearts. The difficulty lies in setting aside our own agendas to embrace His.

First off, I love your space here and the imagery, It's great to have a "place" to voice and express yourself. Bruce, it's beautiful. Thanks for the opportunity to share.

I truly believe that repentance has to come from deep within, by not only redeeming yourself in conversation with God, but to reflect that redemption through persistence in living daily with love in your heart, use acts of kindness to others in need of spiritual uplifting; those who are in need of God's Love, which already lives in all of us, undeniably. There are just some folks who are not able to connect with that inner spirit, unable to accept that love is the only truth. God is Love, undeniably.

We are all born into this world with innocence, peace and joy, inner spirit and love which is all our human right. Over the course of our lifetime, we experience the suffering - external, material, visually graphic and tragic events or images that mold us into the people we are today. It is our responsibility to take control of our inner spirit by not allowing the body to react. We are not our mind, breath or body. It is temporary. What lives long after we physically die (samadhi) is our spirit. Our spirit that was bestowed upon us by God lives forever. It's the light that never dies.

Through our acceptance of our mistakes and consequences from those mistakes, we hope to gain the strength through prayer and meditation that we achieve the Christ like living and God like beings that we truly are.

The Divine way is by being mentally, physically & spiritually being able to seek out and act upon the purpose we are living. Time is borrowed and God has entrusted us to do his work. We inherited the Earth and it's our responsibility to strengthen the relationships we share and those we have yet to embrace, even if it's only for a moment, and serve others, through the love of God.

There are many paths but only One Truth.

Thanks and May Every day be filled with God's Love and Purpose.

Interesting question. I think the challenge is letting go. As human beings we become so attached to our "habits, hang ups and hurts" (to quote Rick Warren), that we delude ourselves to believe that it's more painful to let them go than to carry them. Repentance actually brings freedom; but we make ourselves believe that it brings bondage. We're pretty messed up! Thank goodness we serve a God who is more than able. :)
